Ground Penetrating Radar

Learn more →Before you trench, bore, grade, or excavate, know exactly what's beneath your site. We locate and mark underground utilities across the Central Coast — including the private lines 811 doesn't touch — so your crew digs safely and your project stays on schedule.
Using professional electromagnetic locating equipment, we trace and mark the full range of buried utilities on your property, then flag their path clearly on the surface.
DigAlert (811) notifies public utility owners to mark their lines in the public right-of-way — but it does not cover the private lines on your property. Anything past the meter, plus infrastructure running between buildings, is the property owner's responsibility.
Those private lines are exactly where strikes happen: power to a detached garage or ADU, irrigation and well lines, propane runs to a pool heater or BBQ, and private sewer laterals. Private utility locating closes that gap.
Locating is only useful if the marks are clear. We mark located utilities using the APWA uniform color code so everyone on site can read the ground at a glance:
For trenching, directional boring, deep grading, and foundation work, we sweep the full dig area rather than checking a single line — a complete pre-excavation locate that clears the site before the excavator arrives. It's cheap insurance against an emergency repair, an injured crew member, a stalled schedule, and a contentious change order.
Contractors need fast scheduling and marks they can trust to protect the bid and the timeline. Homeowners need the private lines found before a fence, pool, tree removal, or ADU. Property managers need vendor digs to happen without a tenant outage or a liability question. We handle all three across San Luis Obispo County.
We start with a site walk and review any available plans, then sweep the area with professional locating equipment. We mark each utility by color code, provide depth estimates where soil and line conditions allow, and walk you through what we found in plain language before we leave. No. 811 / DigAlert only notifies public utility owners to mark lines in the public right-of-way. Private lines on your property — past the meter, to detached structures, irrigation, propane, and private sewer laterals — are the owner's responsibility, and that is exactly what we locate.
Non-conductive lines such as PVC or HDPE cannot be traced electromagnetically on their own, but we use methods including sondes, tracer wire, and ground-penetrating radar where appropriate to locate them.
We provide depth estimates where soil and line conditions allow, and we will tell you clearly when depth cannot be reliably determined.
We mark located lines on the surface using the APWA standard color code — red for electric, yellow for gas, orange for communications, blue for water, green for sewer, and purple for reclaimed water or irrigation.
We schedule quickly throughout San Luis Obispo County, including fast response for high-priority pre-excavation locates. Call (805) 549-5752 to check availability for your dig date.
